The Book Theif Summary
The Book Thief is set in Nazi Germany, at the start of World War Two. On the journey to her new home, Liesel's younger brother dies and by her brother's graveside, Liesel's life is changed when she picks up a single object, partially hidden in the snow. It is The Gravedigger's Handbook, left behind there by accident, and it is her first act of book thievery. So begins a love affair with books and words, as Liesel, with the help of her accordian-playing foster father, learns to read. Soon she is stealing books from Nazi book-burnings, the mayor's wife's library, wherever there are books to be found.
But these are dangerous times. When Liesel's foster family hides a Jew from Nazi's in their basement, Liesel's world is both opened up, and closed down.
The Book Thief is a superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time.
The Book Thief Review
You must have read a lot of books being narrated by the protagonist or the writer himself or may be some unknown source.
But how about reading a book narrated by " Death".
Yes I am talking about the Death.
Sounds crazy right?
The Book Thief has been persuasively narrated by Death and turns out he is quiet good at narration.
The book vivdly describes Nazi Germany and how the Germans who by heart did not supported Hitler survived through out the war.
Markus Zusak (the writer) has wonderfully presented all shades of human during those times, very poetically and he presented a little girl (the book theif) to show a major part of the everyday lives that influences each and every individual the most ~ the words.
That's true it is the words that could unite or divide the world. And Mark Zusak has beautiful portrayed it through all the human agony, misery, jealousy, fear that each one go through.
The Book Thief is worth a read as it tells how the death felt when he had to fetch so many souls because of fights between the human races themselves.
This is a must read for all the book lovers. Because it is not just a story about The Book Thief but also about how the words of someone written on those books could change someone's outlook to life.
